Termite Poisons and Chemicals
Termites are terrible little critters. They are one of the worst pests on the planet. They are at their peskiest when they are eating away at the foundation of homes. Since termites like to eat wood they are a house's most feared enemy. They are often found underground festering in self made tunnels so they are hard to spot. Often the case is they are not seen until they have done significant damage. Inquiring about pest control is a best bet when trying to get rid of a termite infestation. There are numerous methods employed by pest control companies including backhoes, baits and traps but one of the best techniques is the use of chemicals.
People have been using chemicals to get rid of termites for centuries. The use of boric acid, usually mixed with some water, has been used for termite control since almost as long as the termite backhoe. These days, termite killing chemicals are highly complex. Companies have been selling patented chemical solutions over the counter and pest control companies have their own patented chemical formulas they use to control termites as part of their termite bonds.
The Two Different Types of Chemicals and Poison
There are basically two different types of chemical compounds utilized by pest control companies and they are used for different purposes. One is a slower acting agent that works much like a bait trap. In fact, it is often the case that this same chemical compound is used in bait traps. When a termite comes into contact with the chemical compound it becomes infected with a contagious and deadly killing agent. As it comes into contact with other termites, they in turn become infected. When the first termite makes its way back to the colony then it is only a matter of time before every termite becomes infected. This chemical can also sterilize termites so they can't reproduce. Since the chemical is slow acting it destroys a termite infestation over time, though does so thoroughly.
The second kind of chemical used to eradicate termites is a fast acting type. When a termite comes into contact with something of this nature, they will most certainly die right away. This instant chemical formula is best for initial termite infestation treatment, what pest control companies call "active areas" or "problem areas", and make sure no more further damage is done to the house or building. They will not rid a property from a termite infestation as more are bound to come back. Inevitably, if a termite infestation has become rampant then a mixture of both chemical compounds will be used. First a fast acting agent to kill off the initial termites and then a treatment of the slow acting agent to make sure none return.
Necessary Precautions when Having Your Home or Building Treated for Termites
The chemical used in controlling termites can be hazardous to one's health. Excessive inhalation of these toxic chemicals can cause serious damage to the body and could result in death. Pest control companies will inform their customers when it is not safe to be inside the home when treating for termites. One will want to keep pets and certain plants out of the home as well as they are also at risk.
There is little to be alarmed about when using these chemical compounds. While they are menacing, they are also effective. Termite poisons and chemicals from boric acid with some water centuries ago to today's highly scientific toxin concoctions have been used for so long because they work.
