Are Baits Better to Treat Soil for Termites?

Baits are an effective way to kill termites. All a pest control company has to do is place baits around the home for the worker termites to gather up the bait and take it back to their colony for the others to eat. Since the bait is poison, it kills them all off.

But can baits be used to treat soil? The idea is to try and keep the termites out of your home to begin with so that you don't have to spend the money on exterminating them.

Repellant Termiticides

The best treatment is repellant termiticides. Rather than using bait in the soil during times when termites are most common, repellants are used to keep the termites away to begin with.

Baits simply attract termites. You don't want to attract them toward your home. You want them to move away from your home. Moving away from your home means not even coming close to entering it.

Do it Yourself?

You may consider eliminating termites on your own instead of utilizing the services of a pest control specialist. However, there are things that you need to keep in mind. For instance, termite control baits are poisonous and using them incorrectly can be harmful. If you have children and/or pets in your home, you want to make sure they are used the right way.

Another thing to keep in mind is that certain chemicals need to be used in certain situations and you may not be able to obtain those chemicals or the equipment needed to administer them the right way. Only a pest control company has the right chemicals, tools, and the experience to administer chemicals the right way and in the right locations so that you and your family are safe. When administered correctly, you'll never know any chemicals are around.
